A commemorative film by Ryuichi Sakamoto, who sadly passed away in 2023 despite achieving great success worldwide as a musician and composer, recorded with his formal consent and performed in a hall by an orchestra. The release of the work has been decided!
This is a celebration of film music in the form of the World Soundtrack Award, which honors the best composers working in the film industry every year at the Film Fest Gent event, and when Ryuichi Sakamoto won the award in 2016, Many of these were performed and recorded by orchestras. Officially released with the official approval of Ryuichi Sakamoto himself, this work is a collection of his masterpieces performed by the Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Dirk Brosse. In 1983, when he was asked by director Nagisa Oshima to compose ``Merry Christmas on the Battlefield'' and perform with David Bowie, Sakamoto had already achieved success in pop/electro music, and was a composer/pianist/singer primarily in Japan. He was active in Four years later, he received the world's highest honor, the Academy Award, for his score for The Last Emperor. Since then, in a career spanning more than 30 years, he has worked with Bernardo Bertolucci (The Last Emperor, The Sheltering Sky), Brian De Palma (Snake Eyes, Femme Fatale), and Pedro Almodovar ( This collection includes masterpieces from his work with leading filmmakers such as Alejandro González Iñárritu (“Babel” and “The Revenant”), This is a fitting tribute to the greatest musician and film composer.
